History

My great-grandfather, Lawrence Bunnell, acquired extensive land holdings close to Bunnell Crossing in Hart County Kentucky during the 1930’s and 1940’s.  My grandfather, Oliver Bunnell, then joined his father in the farming operation and they improved their livestock holdings while also enlarging their row crops.  This operation was named L. Bunnell & Son.  My father, Joe Logsdon, joined the farming operation in the early 1960’s after the death of Lawrence.  The farm was then operated as B & L Farm by my father.  He became very interested in improving the genetics in the beef herd and was one of the first farmers in this area to do so by the use of artificial insemination.

I became a part of the operation in the late 1970’s and was very interested in the cattle breeding program because I was showing cattle.  After leaving the farm for several years to attend college at the University of Kentucky and then on to work at Toyota Motor Manufacturing, I came back in 2003 to join my father in the farming operation.  My farming operation is now B & L Farm Cattle Company.  I am still farming some of the original land that was purchased by my great-grandfather plus my father and I have also bought adjoining farm land that makes up our current operation.
